Each time a major awards ceremony nears, one notices a clamor to include additional classifications to honor unsung work and fill the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.
Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Classifying creative works isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.
Current Gaming Award Categories
The major gaming awards presently include genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories effectively encompass numerous genres, making space possible for numerous titles.
This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of this year’s best games, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. What category would fit them between these six categories? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers released every year that have no home during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.
- A renowned logic title got overlooked for anything that year
- Another creative title was excluded in 2019
- Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
- Limited numbers of puzzle games managed to sneak into niche award types
Importance of Logic Titles
Frequently they represent small games, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most engaged experiences globally and have been for many years.
The famous puzzle experience rivals famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.
To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
